REI Selects NEC Display Solutions To Provide Desktop LCD Displays and E-Waste Recycling Solution
NEC Display Solutions of America, the leading stand-alone provider of flat panel desktop displays, today announced that Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), has selected NEC LCD displays for use on their customer service and back office desktops. In addition to providing the desktop displays, NEC provided a total electronic component recycling and monitor trade-in solution that simplified the display trade-out and ensured the proper disposal of REI’s older and non-working, electronic equipment.

As a long-time promoter of environmental stewardship, REI selected the display solution because of NEC’s high quality products and its innovative solutions for end of lifecycle product stewardship. NEC Display Solutions’ environmental efforts have earned the company a leadership position within the display and PC industries.

“REI works to be a good steward for the environment, whether we are helping organize trail-building projects, supporting conservation causes through our giving program or in the daily operations of our business,” said Michael Collins, Vice President of public affairs. “Working with NEC Display Solutions was a natural choice because they offer a product and service that integrates environment considerations with high quality equipment.”

In addition to being selected because of the unique form factor, the NEC MultiSync LCD1560 was also chosen because of its lower energy consumption and its use of fully-disposable plastic.

“We’re thrilled to be able to deploy our LCD displays in front of REI’s customer service and back-office professionals,” said T.J. Trojan, NEC Display Solutions President. “To be associated with a company like REI that is so highly regarded for their conservation and environmental work is a great compliment to NEC’s own global efforts.”

By contributing to EnergyStar guidelines for displays for the Environmental Protection Agency, proactively reducing the number of contaminants in their products, and using more expensive but fully-disposable plastics, NEC Display Solutions has taken a leadership role on e-waste issues facing the electronics industry.

“REI has long been a friend to conservation and environmental stewardship,” said Andrew Fanara Protection, Group Leader at the Environmental Protection Agency. “And for years NEC Display Solutions has quietly helped the EPA in creating policies and guidelines designed to create a more environmentally-responsible electronics industry. Collaboration of this kind helps the EPA bring awareness to the rapidly growing issue of e-waste and energy conservation within the IT industry,”

The costs of proper disposal and recycling of electronic components will increase significantly over the next several years and the financial impact will be felt by businesses of all sizes. From the time of purchase to the moment the product is recycled or reused, NEC Display Solutions provides an ownership experience that delivers both economic and environmental value throughout the life of the investment.
