ADLER PLANETARIUM TAPS NEC Display Solutions FOR "MOON WALL" TO CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST LANDING ON THE MOON
CHICAGO - July 20, 2009
Near Seamless Video Wall Shows Live Footage of the Moon, Lets Visitors "Cruise" Lunar Surface
NEC Display Solutions of America, a provider of commercial LCD displays and projectors, today announced that its innovative 46-inch ultra-narrow professional displays have been deployed to form a massive video wall at Chicago's Adler Planetarium  and Astronomy Museum - in time for celebrating the anniversary of astronaut Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon on July 20, 1969.

As part of the Adler's Shoot for the Moon permanent exhibition, the interactive Moon Wall is comprised of 12 MultiSync® X461UN  large-format displays, where its ultra-thin bezels allow the assembly of a 4x3 video wall (13.33 ft. x 5.66 ft.) with minuscule gaps between displays, ensuring a clean, crisp picture.

“We're honored to be partnering with the Adler Planetarium for such a meaningful exhibit and to celebrate such a historic day for America and the world,” said Pierre Richer, President and C.O.O. for NEC Display Solutions. “The Apollo 11 moon landing is still the hallmark of creativity and ingenuity, inspiring business, academic, scientific and technological pursuits to this very day. It's that type of innovation that drives NEC.”

The Adler's Moon Wall incorporates the most recent images from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission to the moon, launched in June 2009, allowing visitors to virtually fly over the surface of the moon.

“The Adler's Shoot for the Moon exhibition highlights not only the exciting stories of space exploration but also America's bold plans to return to the moon,” said Doug Roberts, Ph.D., Senior Director of Digital Technology for the Adler Planetarium. “One of our major goals for the exhibition was to ensure that visitors, young and old alike, feel the sense of thrill and adventure in space exploration. NEC's crucial part in the Moon Wall has helped us achieve our objective.”
